PresVu is a prescription eye drop developed by Entod Pharmaceuticals to reduce dependency on reading glasses for individuals affected by presbyopia. Presbyopia is a condition where the eyes gradually lose the ability to focus on nearby objects, commonly occurring around the age of 40.
2. How does PresVu work?
The active ingredient in PresVu is pilocarpine, which works by contracting the iris muscles, controlling the pupil’s size. This enables the eyes to focus better on nearby objects, reducing the need for reading glasses. PresVu also uses an advanced dynamic buffer technology that adapts to the pH levels of tears, ensuring consistent efficacy.
3. How long does the effect of PresVu last?
According to doctors, the effects of PresVu last between four to six hours. It is not intended to be a permanent solution but offers temporary relief from the need for reading glasses.
4. Are there any side effects?
Common side effects of PresVu include itching, redness, eyebrow pain, and muscle spasms in the eyes. It is not recommended for people with inflammation of the iris.
5. Is pilocarpine a new therapy for presbyopia?
Although pilocarpine has been used in eye care for decades, its application for presbyopia is relatively recent. The U.S. FDA approved pilocarpine for presbyopia in 2021, and PresVu uses a 1.25% concentration of pilocarpine for this purpose.
