The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) Prelims exam is the first stage of the examination. The candidates have to score a minimum of 33% marks along with the marks above the cut-off as decided by UPSC. UPSC Prelims exam is conducted to shortlist limited candidates for the Mains exam.
The UPSC Prelims comprises two objective type papers (General Studies I and General Studies II or CSAT) for a total of 400 marks. Both papers are usually held on the same day in two sessions via offline mode (pen-paper).

1. For every incorrect answer, 1/3rd mark of the total mark will be deducted.
2. For the blank answers, no marks will be deducted.
3. In General Studies (Paper I), each question is of 2 marks and there is a negative marking of 0.66 marks
4. In CSAT (Paper-II), each question is of 2.5 marks and a negative marking of 0.833 marks for each wrong answer marked.
5. The prelims marks will not be included in the final result (merit list).
6. Paper II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.

The UPSC 2024 online application process will commence upon the release of the official notification. It is crucial to meticulously fill out the UPSC online application form, as even a minor error may result in the rejection of the candidature.
The online UPSC application registration is divided into two parts:
Candidates need to remit a fee of Rs. 100/- as the UPSC online application fee. This can be done by depositing the amount in any Branch of the State Bank of India by cash, utilizing the Net Banking facility of any bank, or using Visa/Master/RuPay/Credit/Debit Card/UPI Payment. However, certain categories of candidates, including Female/SC/ST/Persons with Benchmark Disability Candidates, are exempted from fee payment.
The UPSC declares the answer key of the UPSC Exam 2024 on its website after the conduction of the examination. The organization announces the candidates' scores as well as the minimum scores needed to qualify for the UPSC 2024 exam after the announcement of the final result. The Union Public Service Commission will release the UPSC IAS 2024 admit card on the official website. The hall ticket available in the online format. UPSC will release the prelims admit card first and the candidates who clear the exam will be able to sit in the. At the exam time, the candidates need to bring the hall ticket to the exam centre along with a valid ID card. The Prelims Admit Card would be released on the official website of UPSC 2-3 weeks before the date of the exam.
The Union Public Service Commission will release the UPSC 2024 exam centres list along with their official notification. UPSC added 2 new centres for the prelims, so now the prelims exam centre list reached 79.
